In the heart of Hardanger lies Folgefonna. When winter is over, Folgefonna Summer Ski Center opens, and for a few months, you can ski in just wool base layers. When the snow melts away and the blue ice emerges, it creates optimal conditions for exploring the glacier on foot. This can offer some spectacular views and hidden gems.

In a rope team, with crampons on our feet and plenty of sunscreen and food, we headed across the glacier. Through caves and up ice walls. There’s something magical about seeing the light pass through meters of ice, illuminating an entire cave with cold blue light.
